Safety: Use buttons, HexTiles and batteries safely
Your family’s safety (both 4-legged and 2) is our #1 priority, which is why we provide an Important Safety, Compliance & Warranty Information insert with our products. The insert is in every box, Connect included, and you can also find it on the Guides & Manuals page.
To keep your learners and people safe while using FluentPet’s products, follow these guidelines.
Supervise your learner
Section titled “Supervise your learner”If chewed on, sound buttons, HexTiles, Edge Pieces, and Frame Pieces can break apart and lead to internal injury if ingested. If a button, part of a button or battery, or part of the foam HexTile is ingested, immediately contact an animal hospital or your veterinarian for medical attention.
If there is a risk of your learner eating the buttons, please don’t leave them unsupervised with the buttons. If chewed on, sound buttons can break apart and create sharp plastic parts or expose the batteries within them, both of which can lead to internal injury if ingested.
Please do not use if your learner is likely to chew on our products.
Remove all packaging and protective film before use
Section titled “Remove all packaging and protective film before use”Please ensure all packaging, including the protective plastic film on the buttons, is fully removed before use. Packaging materials are not intended for learners and may pose a choking or ingestion hazard if left in place.
Batteries in buttons
Section titled “Batteries in buttons”Buttons use replaceable coin cell batteries: each Connect Button uses one CR2430 battery, and each Speak Up! or Basic Button uses three LR44 batteries.
Improperly replaced batteries may present a risk of leak or explosion and personal injury. Mistreated batteries may present a risk of fire or chemical burn.
Do not
- disassemble or expose to conducting materials, moisture, liquid, or high heat.
- attempt to charge the battery.
- leave your battery unused for extended periods.
- short circuit.
Battery life varies with usage. Non-operational batteries should be discarded according to local laws. If no laws or regulations govern, dispose of your device in a waste bin for electronics.
Keep batteries away from children and seniors
Section titled “Keep batteries away from children and seniors”Keep batteries away from children and seniors. Coin-sized and button batteries may be easily swallowed, which may cause personal injury and death. Do not allow children to play with or be in contact with these batteries at any time.
If a battery is swallowed
Section titled “If a battery is swallowed”If your learner swallows a battery or part of a button, immediately contact an animal hospital or your veterinarian.
Never place batteries in your mouth for any reason as they may be swallowed accidentally. Always check medication before ingesting as adults have mistaken button batteries for pills or tablets. If a button battery or parts of a sound button is ingested, seek medical attention immediately. If ingested contact the US National Battery Ingestion Hotline at +1 800-498-8666. It is available 24 hours a day. Information on button battery ingestion can be found on the National Capital Poison Center website at: https://www.poison.org/articles/button-batteries.
Outside the US, call your local poison control center or emergency number.
Connect Base battery
Section titled “Connect Base battery”The Connect Base has a built-in rechargeable battery. Charge it only with the supplied USB-C cable and a standard USB power adapter. Do not open the Base or try to replace its battery.
Use the products safely
Section titled “Use the products safely”Do not open or modify the product except for battery removal and replacement. Do not disassemble or attempt to service this product.
Battery removal and replacement applies only to the coin cell batteries in buttons. The Connect Base has no user-replaceable battery.
