How to replace a Button

There's several reasons why you might need to swap-out or replace a physical Connect Button. You might have a defective Button and you're replacing it with a new one or you put the wrong sticker on the wrong Button.

No worries here's

how to swap out a connect button without losing any of its press history:

  1. Start with unlinking the old Button you want to replace from your Base:

    1. tap on the Bases tab on the bottom right in the app

    2. tap on the Base your Button is connected to

    3. scroll down and find the Button you want to replace (you can double check the Button ID against the ID on the bottom of your Button)

    4. tap the Button name and select unlink in the menu. Confirm by pressing unlink again

    5. press the button on the bottom of your Base to synchronize your Base and send the unlinking command to your Base

    6. your old Button is now unlinked from your Base, and is converted to a "classic Button". This means that your Button, and its press history still exists in the app, it's just not coupled to a physical Connect Button anymore. You can see your Classic Buttons by manually logging in your activity feed (+-icon)

  2. Link your new Button with your Base and merge it with the history of the old (now classic) Button

    1. tap on the Bases tab on the bottom right in the app

    2. tap on the Base you want to connect your new Button to

    3. tap the + icon under "Linked Buttons" and follow the instruction to link your new Button to your Base

    4. Once your new button is linked, tap "Set up the Button" or tap on the link-notification

    5. A "Merge Buttons" screen will come up. On this screen you can select your old (unlinked) Button, now a classic Button. Tap merge and confirm with replace.

    6. Your old Button and its history is now merged with your new connect Button.

  3. Re-record the Button audio and sync to your Base

    1. By converting the Button to Classic and back to Connect, the audio linked to the Button was removed, but the history and name of the Button was preserved.

    2. on the Button edit screen, record the audio for the Button by tapping the red microphone icon

    3. save your changes by pressing update Button

    4. now sync your new sound to your Base by pressing the Base button

After these steps, your old Button should not be linked to your Base anymore and your new Button should play the correct sound on your Base. All the history of your Button is preserved in your activity feed and when pressing your new Button, new presses show up under the correct word.

Note: If you're trying to move a Button from one Base to another Base in the same household, or you're replacing a Base, you can use a much faster method explained here.
